Job Description
Gloucester Rugby is seeking an Academy Forwards Transition Coach to join the team.
Gloucester Rugby is a Premiership Rugby club immersed in the rich history and fabric of its local community. Competing in both the Gallagher Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup, our loyal supporters still retain a distinct passion for our ‘home-grown’ Gloucester players, as do we.
The Gloucester Rugby Academy sits at the core of the club’s long-term strategic vision. We have invested heavily in our Academy, and will continue to do so as we bring through future generations of Gloucester Rugby players.
One of the most significant challenges within the Academy pathway is to ensure the most gifted and talented players graduating from the Under 18’s programme have the appropriate level of support and playing programme to enable them to transition into fully fledged 1st team players.
Therefore, we are looking for a highly motivated individual to coach, support and mentor these Academy Graduates into fulfilling their potential as starting Premiership 1st XV players. The individual should have experience in this transition space with a Forwards coaching skillset. The role’s main priority will be working with these transition players (specifically forwards), but will also work across the whole of the Academy pathway. There is a strong sense of teamwork across Gloucester Rugby, and it will be essential that the successful candidate fits easily into that culture.
This is a unique opportunity to nurture and develop the next generation of Gloucester Rugby players, and to make a significant contribution to the success of this Club for years to come.
This full-time dedicated Academy role will be based at the Gloucester Training Centre at Kingsholm although the role will include time spent visiting loan clubs, to watch training and matches which Senior Academy players are involved in.
Key Accountabilities
To take a lead with the delivery and development of an excellence programme that provides the required levels of coaching to aid players transition into elite performers.
To work with the relevant staff to lead and monitor Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for all players in collaboration with their support network, including their loan club and England age group coaches if applicable.
Ensure all EAP players have an Individualised Playing Programme (IPP): developing these in conjunction with Academy Management, and where appropriate key stakeholders.
To take a lead role in managing the relationship with all loans clubs to ensure all Senior Academy players maximise their game minutes at the most appropriate level.
Alongside the Academy Management and all other Academy Rugby Coaches take part in the ongoing review and development of an age-appropriate and progressive skills curriculum for the Academy from U14 upwards that can be shared and used across the County, DPP and PDG programmes up to and including Gloucester Senior Academy.
To work alongside other Academy staff on developing and delivering a range of coach development initiatives.
To deliver innovative coaching sessions in group and 1-2-1 settings.
To analyse and provide feedback on players performances in both training sessions and matches.
Develop own coaching practices and processes as well as an awareness of Talent ID, Skill Acquisition and Pedagogy in order to promote our ‘Key Principles’ within our Gloucester Rugby philosophy.
Provide specialist coaching support as appropriate (in line with specific coaching specialism) across all Academy programmes.
Assist in the identification and recruitment of Academy and first team players for Gloucester Rugby.
This job description is intended only as a guide to the main responsibilities and is in no way intended to restrict any individual in the performance of other duties as required by the Company.
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge
Essential
To hold at least a RFU Level 3 or an equivalent rugby coaching qualification, with a desire to progress further.
Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle.
RFU DBS clearance or be willing to apply for one.
Keep up to date records and communication.
Ability to work part of a team and on their own.
Commitment to deliver high quality of work.
To be a forward-thinking rugby coach who is committed to developing their own knowledge and experience.
