As the largest employer in fitness and recreation we have more than 5,000 staff at over 140 centres across Victoria. Following a long term contract extension and internal promotion we’re looking for an Area Manager to oversee one of our most prestigious contracts.
About the role
This is a leadership opportunity of genuine breadth, challenge and variety. Overseeing the Active Merri-bek Aquatic and Leisure contract you’ll provide day to day oversight of 6 aquatic and recreational facilities with a cohort of more than 500 staff.
Balancing day to day priorities, you’ll also implement the strategic plan. This will enable you to achieve contract deliverables while also rendering an evolving suite of services that positions the Y to exceed Council expectations and continue to set the industry benchmark in the management of recreation and aquatics facilities.
At the heart of this opportunity is the requirement to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders. You’ll manage Council expectations, building relationships with external and internal parties to optimise contract delivery and shared understanding of contract performance. As constraints, obstacles, problems and opportunities arise you’ll influence and collaborate to negotiate mutually beneficial solutions.
You will also work closely with Council on the redevelopment, marketing, pre-sale and subsequent opening of the brand new Fawkner Leisure Centre.
About you
First and foremost you’ll be terrific communicator who arrives ready to contribute to an outstanding leadership team who are driving the evolution of the Y’s profile in aquatics and recreation. Furthermore, you will also bring:
- Depth of experience in the Aquatics and Recreation sector;
- Strong business acumen – able to balance day to day operational oversight with a drive for execution of strategy;
- Experience leading at scale – large teams, multiple locations, diverse teams and variety of services are the context within which you’ll operate in the role; and,
- Stakeholder influence – you’ll be adept at sharing good news as well as bad, you foster understanding, empathy and reciprocity in contract partner management.
This is a permanent, full-time role with a remuneration of $138K – $149K package (including superannuation), with flexible working arrangements.
