Job Description

Financial Controller

Permanent – 28hrs per week over 4 days (35hrs per week over 5 days considered)
Hybrid (1 day per week in Birmingham Office)
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum FTE (£40,000 – £44,000 pro rata)

England Athletics is the membership and development body for athletics and running in England. England Athletics is a membership organisation with c1,780 member clubs/bodies and c168,000 registered athletes, which exists to provide services and support to its members and to promote and deliver athletics and running activities across all ages, event disciplines, ability levels and aspirations; and to give support to the wider sport where there are more than 7m who run each month in England, 3,000 licensed road races and 186,624 active RunTogether participants operating in more than 3,192 groups.

The Role

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the financial operations of the organisation, provision of high-quality management information, effective cash management, safeguarding the organisation’s assets, ensuring accurate reporting of financial affairs and advising on appropriate financial strategy for England Athletics.

The individual will provide financial leadership, professional business advice, maintain robust internal control procedures, and manage the application of the policies and procedures of England Athletics. The role will manage the finance team in generating accurate and timely monthly management reports to include the P&L, Balance Sheet, summary commentary. The candidate is




responsible for producing Quarterly Partial Exemption VAT calculations and giving VAT advice to the wider organisation in order to maximise recovery.

The individual will manage the budgeting and forecasting process working with Budget Holders to create accurate budget data. The role is responsible for the preparation of the Annual Statutory accounts and the audit process and will work closely with the Head of Finance to analyse and submit the Sport England returns.

We are looking for a qualified accountant with previous finance team management experience, who is able to work cooperatively in a team environment, work effectively under pressure, achieve the monthly and quarterly deadlines, and is self-motivated when working remotely. Effective communication skills are essential to maintain relations with the wider stakeholders at all levels.
