Job Description

Richmond Rugby Club is currently inviting applications for the post of Head of Strength and Conditioning.

The purpose of the role is to lead the Strength and Conditioning programme for our first team squad, who compete in the RFU Championship, whilst also providing support and guidance for the various other squads at the club.

The successful candidate will report directly into the Director of Rugby/Head Coach and will also be required to work collaboratively with the coaching, S and C and medical teams as part of a wider performance team . You will need to meet the needs of the players whilst working in the framework for performance as set out by the Head Coach.

Alongside leading the team/individual periodization and delivery of the Strength and Conditioning programme other areas of responsibility will include the rehabilitation of players, player loading/on field conditioning, and advice on diet and nutrition.

The candidate must exhibit excellent knowledge of current evidence based practise and have a thorough understanding of gym and field based training methodologies.
The successful candidate has the ability to build a team under them.

It is essential that the candidate has the desire to drive the standards of all players for excellence with regards to their physical preparation, is an outstanding team member, a high-energy personality and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in managing relationships with players and colleagues.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
– Creation of an off season training programme for the current squad.
– Planning and delivery of first team squad gym based Strength and conditioning sessions at the club on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
– Sharing and monitoring the programmes of the players who are unable to attend the gym sessions on site.
– Attendance at Saturday training sessions in pre season.
– Working in collaboration with the coaches to deliver rugby specific on field conditioning blocks.
– Planning and delivering rehabilitation sessions in conjunction with the medical team.
– Attendance at all first team home and away games.
– Maintain strength and conditioning databases including attendance and testing data and share with other staff.
Essential requirements:
– BSc in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning or other relevant qualification.
– Experience working or volunteering in a professional/semi – professional or elite sporting environment.
Desirable requirements:
– MSc in Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning.
– A recognised accreditation (UKSCA, NSCA, etc).
– Prior experience of working/volunteering in a team sports environment.
