Job Description

  • Develop and deliver the best basketball referee program in Australia 
  • Full Time Dynamic Role in Crows Nest Sydney

You will have a vision for delivering a best practice officiating program that fosters a high-performance culture along with building a diverse, inclusive environment where all referees feel a strong sense of belonging.

We will support you in your vision for greatness, using traditional and non-traditional methods to improve standards and create a great culture for our officials and technical officials at Norths. This is a tremendous and different opportunity in community sport.

The role

We are looking for the best fit – so don’t be surprised when we may discuss how we can tailor and shape the program around your strengths. You will also:

  • Develop and implement annual Officials plan for NSBA Officials and Technical Officials, in line with the Strategic Plan that promotes a strong culture of excellence, innovation, growth and performance
  • Review current Officials and Technical Officials and develop trusted relationships that foster further development, engagement and retention
  • Attract, Select, Develop, Engage new Officials and Technical Officials to ensure targets are met across our domestic and Rep Competitions
  • Lead best practice Referee development and mentoring programs recognised for emphasis on pathway development, education, innovation, quality and community.
  • Benchmark and improve member experience including delivering operational standards of excellence through Officials service delivery in conjunction with Basketball, Stadium and Finance & Operations Teams
  • Lead the management of Tribunals with support from the Sports Administrator

About you

You have a depth of experience and are driven and engaged by targeting big goals!

Other key attributes and qualifications:

  • Works best in collaborative working relationship with the Norths Basketball Operations team and community
  • Proven basketball experience in referee / officials programs and able to be the expert in the ‘rules’
  • Able to see outside the box, gain support for new initiatives and be part of a wider team that is focussed on implementing them
  • Likely to have 2 to 4 years’ experience in similar role with a passion for developing people
  • Engaging and effective strong interpersonal and communication skills as you work with a diverse member and community base
  • You may need to lead by doing so will need to be physically capable
  • Unrestricted Australian working rights and ability to get a current NSW Working with Childrens’ Check

Work location, hours and remuneration

The role will predominately be based at Norths.

A key requirement is flexibility. You will need to be available to observe officials some evenings and weekends. We shut down over major holidays like Christmas/New Year, Easter, Kings Birthday and Labour Day so you won’t miss big occasions with friends or family.

Whilst the role is advertised as full time, our focus is on appointing the best person for the role which may include accommodating existing commitments you may have.
