Job Description
activeNewham are looking for sports coaches to work on community sessions on sessional basis. activeNewham are a Leisure Trust with Charitable status, working in partnership with Newham Council to deliver leisure, sports and volunteering opportunities in Newham. We operate 4 leisure Centres in Newham, we work hard to meet the individual needs of our members and the local community, with a wide range of facilities and services.
Key tasks and accountabilities are intended to be a guide to the range and level of work expected of the post holder.
This is not an exhaustive list of all tasks that may fall to the post holder and employees will be expected to carry out such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time.
• The sports coach will be reliable and engaging and will deliver an excellent level of service to the participants at their sessions.
• Maintain a positive image of the organisation to participants by providing a welcoming, helpful, and professional service.
• The post holder reports to the Sports development manager and will work closely with the Sports development officers.
• The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• The post holder will be required to wear a uniform.
• To establish and maintain good relationships with participants, making participants feel welcomed and valued, with due regard for the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policies
Health and Fitness
• To prepare areas and equipment for sessions as and when required
• To maintain M&E of activities delivered
Skills / Knowledge
• Level 2 Coaching Qualification in the following sports – football, futsal, basketball, Handball, Wallball, Tennis, Baseball, Cricket (however all other sports will be considered)
• Willing to deliver sessions in a multitude of settings (Community settings, School’s, Sports club)
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Highly enthusiastic and motivated Coaching Attributes
• The ability to deliver a high-quality service with minimal supervision
• The ability to work as part of a team
• Effective time management
Experience
• Previous experience of coaching
• A dynamic individual with a ‘can do’ approach and attitude
• An appreciation of, and commitment to, the distinctive culture and philosophy of the organisation
• Demonstrates trust, openness, and respect in dealings with people
• Level 2 Coaching Qualification in the following sports – football, futsal, basketball, Handball, Wallball, Tennis, Baseball, Cricket (however all other sports will be considered)
• Valid Safeguarding Children Certificate
Other Special Requirements
• Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends to maintain and ensure consistent service delivery
Experience working with young people (12-25) and adults
• Hold a Valid enhanced DBS check (Further to an activeNewham DBS check)
• Qualified in a second sport (Can be level 1)
• Multisport Level 2 qualification
