Job Description

Coaches play a crucial role in developing, inspiring and leading athletes to achieve their goals in surf lifesaving sports competition. As a surf lifesaving coach, you have the opportunity to support and guide athletes in a range of disciplines across all levels of competition – from juniors to high performance.

Recognising the diversity of the surf lifesaving landscape, City of Perth SLSC is seeking to build an agile and responsive surf sports coaching structure that meets the needs of our members.

We are looking for water coaches to join our current team and build on the great foundation and proud competitor history of City of Perth SLSC. 

From foundation, through to high performance we are interested in hearing from you. The program structure will be managed by our General Manager and Surf Sports Coordinator, who will manage and support the coaching team. 

Our aim is to fill roles based on an hourly rate for a:

  • Senior water coach 
  • Youth water coach 

We are committed to finding the right coaches who can deliver our One Club, One Community vision and who are experts within their discipline(s). You will strive for performance-based outcomes from our athletes who are competing at Club, state, and national surf sport levels. We would welcome open discussion in relation to how best work to meet both applicant, Club and athlete needs. 

You will use a range of communication skills and technology to build open and clear communication with our athletes to build rapport and engagement. Program development and strategies should deliver and drive a healthy, inclusive competitive surf sports culture. 

Working with our dedicated surf sports coordinator you will ensure all of the administrative needs of the surf sports program are met. In partnership with the coaching team, they will assist in the delivery of clear lines of communications between coaches, athletes, parents, member volunteers, across the surf sports disciplines. As well as other surf lifesaving clubs, and SLSWA. 

Our surf sports program is supported by a dedicated and passionate volunteer cohort who drive our success from within. They also form the surf sports panel, who provide key support and dialogue with the key coaching staff for continuous feedback and improvement. 

Key Requirements 

  • Ability to lead and build strong rapport with athletes 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surf sports competition and rules
  • Work in partnership with the surf sports coordinator and the administration team 
  • Experience in coaching and organising athletes in youth and senior age groups
  • Ability to plan, write and execute structured training program for water surf sports
  • Highly motivated and passionate about surf sports
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • SLSA Coaching Certifications or progressing towards certification
  • SLSA Bronze Medallion Holder 
  • Current Working with Children Check

About the City of Perth SLSC

City of Perth SLSC has a proud history as one of the strongest competitive Surf Sports Clubs on the west coast. We have consistently performed at state and national competitions with great success on and off the beach. We have seen many great athletes call City home and have proudly worn the red, black, and white. 

The City of Perth SLSC club is located within the beachside precinct at City Beach, Western Australia. As part of the City Beach community, our club has a membership of nearly 1,500 combining our successful volunteer water safety and surf rescue service activities with sustainable commercial operations through a gym and an events and function offering.

Salary
