The Role of the U9-16’s Academy Physiotherapist
Brentford Football Club is enjoying the most exciting period in its history and we’re looking for an accomplished Physiotherapist to join our Academy team.

Working within the Academy Medical department, reporting to the Head of Medical and Academy Manager, the role will be responsible for the development and delivery of physiotherapy services to squads across the Academy Foundation and Youth Development Phase age groups (9-16’s).

The successful candidate will mentor and develop the part-time physiotherapists within the department and oversee and supervise all medical provision for the U16s squad in conjunction with the Academy Doctor.
We are looking for a pro-active individual with a forward-thinking and problem-solving attitude, and who seeks to develop their skills.


Main Accountabilities

Management of Injuries
• To provide musculoskeletal diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation to all 9-16’s (Foundation and Youth Development Phase) Academy players.
• To provide, or ensure provision of, Academy training and match day cover, home and away, as required.
• To perform clear and structured injury assessments to ensure accurate injury diagnosis and associated detailed rehabilitation plans.
• To provide gym and pitch-based rehabilitation and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal transition from rehabilitation into the technical program.

Injury Prevention
• To develop and implement injury prevention strategies alongside coaches and performance staff.
• Undertake regular physical screening with all foundation phase players, relevant to their stage of development.
• Understanding of growth and maturation and its implications on the development of athletes.
• To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including doctors, performance staff and coaching staff to optimise player physical development and performance.

Medical Provision at Matches, Training and Tours
• To perform and record daily/weekly medical emergency equipment checks.
• To coordinate and supervise a small group of part-time Academy Therapists to ensure that all Academy activities are covered from a medical perspective.
• Working with the Academy/Club Doctor, ensure that appropriate medical provision is in place for all foundation phase tours.
Pre-signing Medicals/Medical Consultations.
• Play an active role within the pre-signing medical of Academy Foundation Phase players liaising closely with the Academy/Club Doctor.
• When necessary, accompany players to medical consultations at short notice (either in this country or abroad), ensuring the player receives optimal care and advice at all times.

General Medical Dept Accountabilities
• To maintain up to date medical records using the Kitman Labs/PMA medical records system.
• Ensure individual qualifications, training and CPD requirements are kept up to date and in line with any applicable regulations.
• Awareness of the expectations of a Category 4 Academy (transitioning to higher level categories) according to the EPPP.
• Ensure all key administrative tasks are completed and appropriately managed:
o Review the EPPP document three times a year and review/update KPI targets.
o Oversee and manage the Ultralinq online system for all cardiac screens (U16s).
o Review and update relevant Academy EAPs along with the Academy/Club Doctor – annually or as needed for all Academy venues.
• Any other relevant tasks and duties as directed by senior Academy or Football Department management.
• Ensure that all players specific medical information is provided to the parent/guardian of individual players as appropriate.

Continued Professional Development
• Take responsibility for continued professional development and keeping an up-to-date portfolio of achievements.
• Take an active role in delivering regular departmental CPD session for full- and part-time Medical or Academy staff.
• Strive to advance working practices both within the Medical Department, and in the wider sports physiotherapy setting by promoting and performing clinical research.

General Club Accountabilities
• To ensure compliance with all relevant Club policies, including health and safety policies and with specific reference to the data regulations.
• To ensure compliance with all Club and regulatory requirements related to safeguarding, and to ensure the Club’s safeguarding processes are followed in the event of any safeguarding concerns.
• To ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, ethical, and social requirements.
• To build and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally, maintaining a professional image at all times when representing Brentford FC
• To keep confidential any information gained regarding the Club and its personnel.
• To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
• Create and process Purchase Orders and invoices for medical suppliers via iDocs including any enquiries from finance.
• Any other relevant tasks and duties as directed by senior Academy or Football Department management.

Person Specification – Essential Personal Characteristics
• BSc Physiotherapy Degree.
• A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience.
• Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) with capability to achieve ATMMiF.
• FA DBS check (can be performed at the point of offer).
• Able to drive with access to own vehicle.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule with unsociable hours, including weekend and evening cover.
• Ability to work in a team and independently on own initiative.
• Highly organised with strong communication and time management skills.
• Embody Club values – togetherness, humility, respectful and progressive.

Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics
• MSc in relevant subject or working towards this.
• Experience of working in professional sports environment (preferably football).
• FA Safeguarding Certification.
• Evidence of CPD portfolio.
